When I’m not practicing architecture, you can find me…
Walking the dog or exploring Vermont. The dog keeps me in touch with nature on a daily basis and Vermont is my go-to get-away from the city. In terms of activities, I gravitate towards fabric arts (quilting, knitting & sewing), especially for their tactile quality and to play with geometry and color. I started sewing (a 3D exercise) long before I studied architecture.

Favorite quote, or the most valuable advice I’ve ever received:
“Lead from any chair” – Benjamin Zander, conductor in The Art of Possibility.

Childhood dream job:
Costume designer

If I hadn’t gone into architecture, I might have pursued…
Art Therapy would have combined my interest in people, neuroscience and art (in a very different way than architecture does.) I practice Soul Collage – a type of collaging that taps into Jungian psychology and accesses the subconscious through visual imagery.

Favorite phase of design:
My favorite phase of Architecture is Design Development. By DD you really know the project well. That’s when you take the ideas/sketches and work out the details. During this phase the design ideas become a reality.

Favorite movies:
West Side Story, Dr. Zhivago, Copying Beethoven (and others) where the musical score is integral to the story line.
