We had the opportunity to work with a private developer to reintroduce a ground level commercial space – its likely original use – after the façade had been infilled, and the space used as a cramped and inefficiently laid out dwelling unit for many years.
In considering the scale of the building, the design introduced a lighter materials palette at the first floor, removing much of the heft of the brick façade while introducing large picture windows, canopy with downlighting, and signage band that continues a rhythm alongside adjacent commercial storefronts. The interior walls were opened up to allow for a small reception seating area, open office space, a private office, flexible conferencing, and kitchenette.
